JOE WALKER

“My filmmaking really began with technology. It began through technology, not through telling stories, because my 8mm movie camera was the way into whatever I decided to do.”

- Steven Spielberg.

I've grown up my entire life always fascinated by technology and the many inspiring innovations that it has gifted this world, and of course, telling stories through that technology. Something I learned early on about myself is that I love cameras! By the time I as 16, I was shooting 35mm stills on my father's old Nikon and experimenting with digital video cameras in our high school tv production class. This is where my journey began. I craved the power of the technology, but more so the power to create art and tell stories.

However, I didn't want to take the same road everyone else traveled. I've always like to find different ways to solve problems and different avenues to explore. I enrolled at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and simultaneously began working at a local TV affiliate. While I was doing those things, I began working on narrative film projects and experimental creative media works. I taught myself how to shoot on film and within a short time, I had worked as a camera intern on an Oscar nominated short film (Johnny Flynton), travelled to the Cannes Film Festival twice, and began work in advertising. But because the technology was so fascinating to me, I also became a proficient editor and visual effects artist, because...why not?!

22 years later, I have been the cinematographer on two successfully distributed feature films (Out Of The Fight , Purse) and an entire season of a TV reality series (TLC's Coach Charming), as well as several award winning short films and music videos. I have edited hundreds of commercials and corporate videos, and quite a few narrative projects as well. I have also served as a visual effects artist on a feature film (Sword of Trust, Netflix) and numerous commercials and music videos. Throughout it all, I have enjoyed creating unique and beautiful imagery for a multitude of diverse clients and fellow artists. Whether I'm leading a team to light a scene and choose cameras and lenses, or directing an entire team on how we're going to paint out reflections, every inch of the technical creative process and the ability to craft a story is my passion.

When I'm not busy on a set or in an edit suite, I LOVE spending time with my wife and kids, cooking, eating, traveling, hiking and of course taking pictures of sunsets. I'll see you on the beach!

P.S. If you need help with any of Apple's crazy products I might save you a trip to the Genius Bar. Just saying.
